Automotive devices offer designers high reliability solutions
Take a look at the latest Toshiba products for
Automotive and high reliabilty applications
As vehicles become more complicated the semiconductor content steadily grows. This has been further accelerated through rapid growth of hybrid and electric vehicles.
Every vehicle contains numerous motors and automated funtions, so power switching, isolation, and electric motor control are now key elements in vehicle design.
Transportation as a segment is also diversifying, with e-scooters and e-bikes becoming common place while small electric vehicles such as e-tuk-tuks offer solutions for crowded inner city spaces.
This electrification trend is now also reflected in warehouse and logistics management solutions.
As a result of these trends a wide and varied range of high reliability semiconductor products are available for a variety of related transportation and industrial markets.
What are the key families from Toshiba that can support these “transportation” applications?

Power MOSFETs
Toshiba offers an extensive line-up of power MOSFETs for various automotive applications including 48V battery systems. The combination of low ON-resistance and advanced package technology makes Toshiba's power MOSFETs an ideal solution for reducing system losses, thereby contributing to energy-saving in automotive applications. All MOSFETs on this leaflet are qualified to AEC-Q101 or are under AEC-Q101 qualification.
Copper (Cu) connector and clip bonding SOP/DSOP Advance(WF), TSON Advance(WF) and DPAK+ use copper(Cu) connectors instead of conventional aluminium wire bonding. The newly developed S-TOGL and L-TOGL adopt the Cu clip structure (post-less structure), which is an evolution of the Cu connector structure, to achieve further improvement in high current performance. The Cu connector and clip contribute to the reduction of the package resistance and inductance.
A great example is the new 80V XPQR8308QB and 100V XPQ1R00AQB are based upon Toshiba’s new U-MOS X-H process. This gives low levels of on-resistance (RDS(ON)) values of 350A (XPQR8308QB) and 300A (XPQ1R00AQB) continuously with pulsed values (IDP) of 1050A and 900A respectively.

Motor Control
TB9M003 SmartMCD™ The Toshiba award winning* SmartMCD device, offers efficient Field Oriented Control (FOC) of 30-1000W BLDC/PMSM Motors in Automotive or similar applications.
Using Toshiba's advanced fifth-generation mixed-signal process technology, combining an Arm® Cortex® CPU with a Vector Engine co-processor and pre-drivers to control external B6 N-channel MOSFETs. The device connects directly to the battery and LIN bus, delivering high levels of performance and integration. Housed in a 9.0mm x 9.0mm thermally enhanced HTQFP48 package, this level of integration enables smaller, simpler and lower cost 30- 1000W BLDC/PMSM motor systems. The available ecosystem with the SmartMCD™ PC tool ensures fast time to market. It allows easy parameter configuration, drive control, real-time logging and diagnostics via a high-speed UART.

Toshiba also offers Motor Control Devices without an integrated MCU such as the new TB9083FTG. The TB9083FTG has been designed in accordance with ISO 26262 (2nd edition) and integrates 9 gate drivers, including 6 for driving MOSFETs to control BLDC motors in the 1000W range or below. Additionally, it includes 3 drivers for driving external MOSFETs which can be used either for system control or safety relays thus enabling the TB9083FTG to support ASIL-D, the highest level of functional safety for automotive applications. The TB9083FTG also incorporates a built-in charge pump, adjustable current sense amplifiers for each motor phase oscillator circuit and an SPI communication interface for configuration via a host microcontroller unit (MCU).

Isolation
Toshiba offers a new generation of AEC-Q101 qualified photocouplers compliant to the requirements of most automotive applications and other rugged applications. With more than 20 years of experience in the automotive photocouplers market, Toshiba provides suitable products for the increasing isolation requirements in today’s automotive applications. They include EV/HEV, Battery Management Systems, DC-DC converter & Inverter.
For example the new high voltage 900V photorelay TLX9150M / TLX9152M offers a high output withstand voltage (VOFF) of at least 900V.
